چکیده

This paper deals with the question of optimal inventory sizes in a compétitive environment in which the demand for a product at a vendor dépends on the inventory level of the product at that vendor relative to the inventories of the same product held by other competing vendors. The total demand for the product at all vendors is assumed to be fixed. This question is examined for two different replenishment policies: base stock policy where the vendors keep a constant level of inventory by ordering the product at the same rate as the observed demand; and continuons review policy where all vendors replenish their inventories periodically when the inventory level drops to a predetermined level.

Submission ID: 025-1345 Industry Competition and Manufacturing Inventory: An Exploratory Study

Theoretical models have been ambiguous on the relationship between industry competition and inventory holdings of manufacturing firms. Facing competition, on the one hand, firms may desire to hold more inventory to avoid losing sales to competitors; on the other hand, firms strive to improve inventory turns to control costs and stay competitive. Using U.S. Census data on manufacturing industrie...

Centralized and Competitive Inventory Models with Demand Substitution

A standard problem in operations literature is optimal stocking of substitutable products. We consider a very general consumer-driven substitution problem with an arbitrary number of products and a quite general substitution structure, both under centralized inventory management and competition. We obtain analytically tractable solutions that generalize and extend the results of several earlier...

Efficiency of a multi-objective imperialist competitive algorithm: A bi-objective location-routing-inventory problem with probabilistic routes

An integrated model considers all parameters and elements of different deficiencies in one problem. This paper presents a new integrated model of a supply chain that simultaneously considers facility location, vehicle routing and inventory control problems as well as their interactions in one problem, called location-routing-inventory (LRI) problem. This model also considers stochastic demands ...

Developing a new stochastic competitive model regarding inventory and price

Within the competition in today’s business environment, the design of supply chains becomes more complex than before. This paper deals with the retailer’s location problem when customers choose their vendors, and inventory costs have been considered for retailers. In a competitive location problem, price and location of facilities affect demands of customers; consequently, simultaneous optimiza...

A Continuous Review inventory Control Model within Batch Arrival Queuing Framework: A Parameter-Tuned Imperialist Competitive Algorithm

In this paper, a multi-product continues review inventory control problem within batch arrival queuing approach (MQr/M/1) is modeled to find the optimal quantities of maximum inventory. The objective function is to minimize summation of ordering, holding and shortage costs under warehouse space, service level, and expected lost-sales shortage cost constraints from retailer and warehouse viewpoi...
